CORTLAND, N.Y. - The nationally ninth-ranked Cortland women's volleyball team opened SUNYAC Eastern Division pool play with a 3-0 win over New Paltz and a 3-1 victory against Oneonta at Corey Gymnasium.
The Red Dragons (15-0, 2-0 SUNYAC East) will face Potsdam Saturday at 10 a.m. and Plattsburgh at 2 p.m. Potsdam is also 2-0 after victories Friday against Oneonta and Plattsburgh.
Cortland opened with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-14 win over New Paltz behind senior
Ashley Coyle's (Mt. Hope/Minisink Valley) 15 kills and seven digs. She had a .500 attack percentage. Senior
Natalie Zacpal (Islip) finished with nine kills and one error in 15 attempts for a .533 attack percentage and also contributed a team-high four blocks, three solo.

Kristen Guercio (Smithtown/Smithtown East) recorded 36 assists and 12 digs. Junior
Aubrey Barrett (Liverpool) and junior
Ava Hintz (East Aurora) added seven kills apiece. Junior libero
Krissy Silk (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) led the team with 16 digs and two aces.
The Red Dragons then defeated Oneonta in four sets, 25-20, 25-27, 25-12, 26-24. Cortland overcame deficits of 22-16 and 24-22 to win the final set. Zacpal and Hintz led the squad with 16 kills each. Zacpal recorded a .560 attack percentage and had four blocks, while Hintz hit at a .405 clip and led the team with five blocks.
Coyle registered 13 kills and a team-high 21 digs. Guercio distributed 48 assists and assisted on three blocks and Silk finished with 14 digs.
