NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Junior
Erin Smith (Greene) scored a pair of second-half goals to lead the Cortland field hockey team to a 2-0 victory at New Paltz Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The host Hawks fell to 4-3 and 1-1.
Sophomore goalie
Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) made three saves in posting the shutout and earning her first win of the season. New Paltz's Antonija Pjetri stopped eight shots in the cage.
After a scoreless first half, Smith scored what would prove to be the game-winner just two minutes, 55 seconds into the second half when she beat Pjetri to her right side to finish off a breakaway. Smith then added an insurance goal, her team-high fourth of the season, at 56:34 as she converted a penalty stroke into the lower left corner of the cage.
