Carrino's Second-Half Goal Gives Cortland 3-2 Win vs. #18 Rochester

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Erin Carrino (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored her first career goal with 13 minutes, 54 seconds left in the second half to lead Cortland to a 3-2 victory versus nationally 18th-ranked Rochester Wednesday night at the Stadium White Field.

Junior Karly Vdoviak (Johnstown) tallied the first two goals of the game for the Red Dragons (3-3). Senior Sara Woodward (Ancram/Pine Plains) collected an assist. Sophomore goalie Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) earned the win without having to make a save as the Cortland defense blocked several shots in the game.

Junior Lindsey Randall (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) and sophomore Megan Keil (Syracuse/Camden) scored for the Yellowjackets (8-2) with senior Shelby Hall (Hamburg) and freshman Michelle Relin (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) recording assists. Junior goalie Madison Wagner (Cheswick, PA/Fox Chapel) registered six saves, and junior Katie Flaschner (East Amherst/Nichols School) had a defensive save.

Vdoviak gave Cortland the lead 20:28 into the game when she one-timed a rebound out off the air on the right side of the cage. She upped the advantage to 2-0 just 31 seconds before the half on a redirection in front off Woodward's pass inside the circle. The Yellowjackets wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard in the second half on Keil's goal 1:47 into the period. After a Cortland turnover, Hall slid a pass to the right side of the cage where Keil deflected a shot over Perricone. Less than seven minutes later, Randall tied the game on an eight-yard flip shot through traffic off a pass from Relin.

Carrino scored the game-winner at 56:06. After a shot by Woodward on the right side was blocked, the ball trickled through a group of players to the left where Carrino was unmarked and sent a shot into the open goal. Cortland kept Rochester in the midfield for most of the remainder of the game, but the Yellowjackets did produce two final chances in the closing minute. Rochester earned a penalty corner but shots by Hall and Randall were blocked by Cortland players and the ball was cleared out of danger to seal the win.
