CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Brooke Hullings (Delran, NJ) scored with 18 minutes, 31 seconds remaining in regulation to lead the nationally 10th-ranked Montclair St. Red Hawks to a 1-0 win versus Cortland Saturday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at the Stadium White field.
For Cortland (3-4), sophomore goalie
Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) stopped four shots. Her counterpart from Montclair St. (10-1), senior Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ) made six saves to earn the shutout. Sophomore Abby Erler (New Hampton, NH/Newfound Regional) assisted on the goal.
After a scoreless first half where most of the play was in the midfield, Hullings notched the lone goal of the game at the 51:29 mark. Junior Sierra Rauchbach (East Brunswick, NJ) sent the ball to the top of the circle on a penalty corner where the ball was played over to Erler on the left side. Erler then slid a pass back to the right where Hullings scored on a shot through traffic.
Late in the game, the Red Dragons created excellent scoring chances. With just under four minutes remaining, Bosland denied back-to-back shots by senior
Katie Barbagallo (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse). Inside a minute to play, Cortland generated two shots after a penalty corner but Bosland turned aside attempts by sophomore Abbey Wentlent (Greene) with 34 seconds left and senior
Sara Woodward (Ancram/Pine Plains) with 29 seconds remaining to seal the win.
