Cortland Secures SUNYAC Tournament Berth With Sweep vs. Brockport

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Seniors Ava Hintz (East Aurora) and Aubrey Barrett (Liverpool) led a balanced attack as Cortland swept Brockport, 25-16, 25-14, 25-21, in a SUNYAC match at Buffalo State. The victory, combined with two Oneonta losses on Friday, clinched a berth for Cortland into the six-team SUNYAC postseason tournament Nov. 8-10.

Cortland (14-15 overall) is currently tied for fifth place with Potsdam in league play at 4-3. Oneonta and Geneseo are tied for seventh at 2-6, but each only has one match remaining. New Paltz is first at 7-0, followed by Buffalo State (6-1), Fredonia (6-2) and Plattsburgh (5-3). Cortland will finish league action Saturday versus New Paltz at 10 a.m. and Buffalo State at 12:30 p.m.

Hintz put down seven kills with no errors in 13 attempts for a .538 attack percentage, while Barrett finished with a team-high eight kills and one error in 18 attempts for a .389 attack percentage. They shared the team lead with three blocks apiece.

Junior Mary Kelly (Guilderland) and sophomore Kim Givelechian (Roslyn Heights/Herricks) added five kills each and freshman Liz Roberts (Island Park/West Hempstead) totaled 30 assists. Senior Krissy Silk (Masssapequa Park/Massapequa) led the team with 15 digs, followed by Givelechian with 11 and sophomore Sydney Hayward (Trumansburg) with nine.

Hannalee Fordyce paced Brockport (9-18, 0-7 SUNYAC) with eight kills and a .389 attack percentage. Jaime Snyder and Hannah Sawicki chipped in with six kills each and Jessica Greiner dished out 29 assists
