BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Cortland women's volleyball team completed SUNYAC regular-season play with losses to first-place New Paltz in four sets and second-place Buffalo State in three sets at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
The Red Dragons (14-17, 4-5 SUNYAC) will be the sixth seed in the six-team SUNYAC postseason tournament Nov. 8-10 at New Paltz. Cortland, the three-time defending league champion, will face Fredonia in the quarterfinals on Nov. 8.
New Paltz defeated Cortland in Saturday's first match in four sets. The Hawks won the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-15, but Cortland won the third set, 25-22. The Hawks finished the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set.
Senior
Ava Hintz (East Aurora) led the Red Dragons with 11 kills and three blocks. Senior
Aubrey Barrett (Liverpool) added five kills and freshman
Liz Roberts (Island Park/West Hempstead) had 23 assists. Senior
Krissy Silk (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) led the team with 18 digs and two aces and sophomore
Kim Givelechian (Roslyn Heights/Herricks) added 14 digs.
Becca Borquist led New Paltz with 21 kills and Marissa King distributed 49 assists.
Buffalo State swept Cortland by set scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-22. Hintz once again posted 11 kills and led the team with four blocks. Givelechian recorded six kills, Roberts tallied 29 assists and freshman
Melanie McGuirk (Lido Beach/Kellenberg) led the Red Dragons with 13 digs.
Samantha Parente paced the host Bengals with 13 kills and Hannah Renaldo added 11 kills. Kelsey Bashore finished with 31 assists.
Cortland will complete the regular season next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2, at the Emory University Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
