ATLANTA, GA. – The Cortland women's volleyball team lost to a pair of nationally ranked teams during the first day of the Emory University Invitational. The Red Dragons fell in straight sets to 15th-ranked Trinity University (Texas) and to the sixth-ranked host Eagles.
Cortland (14-19) will complete the tournament and the regular season Saturday with matches against Berry College (Ga.) at 10:30 a.m. and ninth-ranked Juniata College at 3:30 p.m.
Sophomore
Kim Givelechian (Roslyn Heights/Herricks) led Cortland versus Trinity with 10 kills with only two errors for a .364 attack percentage. Senior
Ava Hintz (East Aurora) added seven kills and a .357 attack percentage and freshman
Liz Roberts (Island Park/West Hempstead) recorded 24 assists.
Senior
Krissy Silk (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) led the team with eight digs and junior
Mary Kelly (Guilderland) had two blocks.
Trinity (30-4) was led by Maggie Emodi's 12 kills. Kelsey Daniel finished with six kills and a team-high seven blocks and Erin Cusenbary served three aces.
Hintz paced Cortland versus Emory with six kills and Kelly totaled six blocks. Senior
Aubrey Barrett (Liverpool) added five blocks and four kills, Hintz had four blocks and Silk registered eight digs.
Cat McGrath tallied 10 kills and a .500 attack percentage and Jessica Holler had nine kills and a .571 attack percentage for Emory (25-3). Sydney Miles distributed 29 assists.
