Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#17 Cortland Clips #14 Rochester, 2-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman Gabrielle Stein (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) scored the game-winning goal late in the first half as the nationally 17th-ranked Cortland field hockey team held on for a 2-1 non-conference win at 14th-ranked Rochester Sunday afternoon. The Red Dragons won their fourth straight game and improved to 7-2 on the season, while the Yellowjackets fell to 10-2. The game was delayed 30 minutes due to inclement weather.

Junior Emily Woods (Williamsville/Williamsville North) also scored for the Red Dragons. Junior goalie Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) turned aside 10 shots for Cortland. Lindsey Randall scored Rochester's goal. Madison Wagner made 10 saves, and Tiffany White and Sayaka Abe each recorded a defensive save for the Yellowjackets.

The Red Dragons took an early 1-0 lead when Woods' shot deflected off a Rochester defender and past Wagner just 35 seconds into the game. Randall tied the score at 22:11 on a 10-yard blast that eluded Perricone. Stein tallied the game-winner, her team-high 15th goal of the season, 1:47 before the half, tapping in a loose ball in front.

In the second half, Rochester had one last chance to score the equalizer, but Perricone denied an attempt by Gina Cunningham with 1:09 remaining in regulation after a penalty corner.

The Red Dragons return to action on Saturday, Oct. 12, with a conference game at Brockport at 1 p.m.
