READING, PA. – Ten different players scored goals as the nationally second-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team opened its season with a 16-4 win at rainy Albright College Saturday afternoon in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Albright (0-1) is currently coached by ex-Cortland assistant Jake Plunket.
Sophomore
Matt Rakoczy (Clifton Park/Albany Academy) and freshman
Zach Hopps (Akwesasne/Massena) led the Red Dragons with three goals and two assists each. Junior

Eric Ohman (Islip) tallied two goals apiece, junior
Joe Slavik (Binghamton/Seton Catholic) contributed one goal and three assists and five other players each scored a goal.

Billy Davis (Manhasset) won 9-of-13 faceoffs, collected a game-high 11 ground balls and chipped in with an assist. Junior
Doug Meehan (Sayville) forced three turnovers and recorded six ground balls, while senior defenseman
C.J. Nye (Marcellus) registered five ground balls and scored a goal. Senior goalie
Mike Kaminski (Sayville) stopped 11 shots and allowed two goals in 42 minutes, 10 seconds. Junior goalie
Scott Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) made four saves and surrendered two goals in 17:50.
Phil Potter paced the Lions' offense with two goals, and Ryan Turner and Matthew Lomady each scored once. Justin Brown and T.J. Holston recorded two assists apiece. Andrew Torak started between the pipes, making six saves and allowing 10 goals in 23:01, before giving way to Jordan DiZenzo, who stopped four shots and gave up six goals over the final 36:59.
Cortland took control of the game early, jumping out to a 4-0 lead at the 9:34 mark of the first quarter on goals from four different players. The lead grew to 7-1 after 15 minutes as Hopps put up all three of his goals in the quarter. The Red Dragons pushed their advantage to 11-3 at the half, capping the opening 30 minutes on goals from Ohman at 6:59 and 12 seconds before intermission.
Cortland tallied the only goals of the third quarter to lead 14-3 as Rakoczy, Consul and senior
Brandon Mulholland (Levittown/MacArthur) each found the back of the net. The lead eventually became 16-3 on scores from Rakoczy and sophomore
Andrew Billups (New Rochelle) before Lomady completed the scoring with 46 seconds remaining.
