CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally top-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team opened up a 10-0 lead at the half and went on to defeat The College of Brockport, 17-2, Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Golden Eagles fell to 4-7 and 1-2.

Joe Slavik (Binghamton/Seton Catholic) and sophomore
Matt Savlov (Liverpool) led Cortland with three goals each. Freshman
Zach Hopps (Akwesasne/Massena) had two goals and one assist, sophomore
Hunter Osborne (Homer) netted a pair of goals, junior Nathan Garbarino (Binghamton) tallied one goal and two assists and sophomores
Mike Cantelli (Holmdel, NJ) and
Matt Rakoczy (Clifton Park/Albany Academy) recorded one goal and one assist apiece. Four other players scored one goal, including freshman
Conner Johnston (Homer) who tallied the first of his career, and junior
Cody Consul (Webster/Webster Schroeder) added two assists.

Mike Kaminski (Sayville) started in the cage, making three saves and allowing no goals in 30 minutes of action. Junior
Steve Mahle (Camillus/West Genesee) played 22:15, stopping five shots and surrendering one goal. Senior
Brendan Quinn (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional) made his first career appearance, making two saves over the final 7:45. Freshman
Pat Baldwin (Alpharetta, GA) won 8-of-11 faceoffs and recorded six ground balls. Johnston won 3-of-4 faceoffs. Junior
Stephen Burke (Yorktown) caused three turnovers, Savlov added five ground balls and sophomore
Luke McNaney (Marcellus) contributed three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Senior Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) scored both of Brockport's goals with junior Riley Austin (Rochester/Eastridge) and freshman Austin Webb (Syracuse/Westhill) each chipping in with an assist. Senior goalie Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) made 13 saves in 53:33 before giving way to sophomore Shane Hutchins (Albany/Albany Academy), who stopped one shot over the final 6:27. Junior Keenan Sullivan (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) collected six ground balls, and Banwaree added five.
The game remained scoreless for just over nine minutes before Savlov scored back-to-back goals just 12 seconds apart. Slavik and Cantelli closed the first quarter with goals and Cortland led, 4-0. The Red Dragons took control of the game by out scoring the Golden Eagles, 6-0, in the second quarter. Hopps and Slavik each scored twice and Rakoczy added a goal and an assist in the quarter.
Elliott put Brockport on the scoreboard 45 seconds into the third quarter before seniors
Thomas Casey (Yorktown) and
C.J. Nye (Marcellus) closed the quarter with goals to give Cortland a 12-1 lead. With both teams going deep into the bench in the fourth quarter, Osborne netted a pair of goals and Garbarino picked up his three points as the Red Dragons pushed their lead to 15-1. Elliott scored his second of the game on an around-the-back shot at 4:19 before freshman
Conor Scavone (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) and Johnston closed the scoring for the 17-2 final.
Cortland dominated nearly every team statistic. The Red Dragons out shot Brockport, 55-22, held a 48-27 advantage in ground balls and won 13-of-22 faceoffs. Cortland also held Brockport to 11-of-22 on clears and caused 12 of the Golden Eagles' 26 turnovers.
