Cortland Drops Season-Opener at Clarkson, 4-3

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Clarkson men's soccer team scored three consecutive goals in less than a 16-minute span in the second half to erase a 2-1 deficit and held on for a 4-3 win versus Cortland in the season-opening game for both teams at the North Country Classic.

Juniors Matt Williams (Cobleskill/Cobleskill-Richmondville) and Darren McCormack (Dublin, Ireland/Fingal) each scored a goal for the Red Dragons. The team also was awarded an own goal. Sophomore Robby Reiser (Melville/Half Hollows Hills East) contributed an assist. Junior goalie Tim Beauvais (Hilton) stopped seven shots.

Marco Parisi led the Golden Knights with two goals and one assist. Tucker Wilcox and Alex Vozzella each scored a goal with Angelo DiFrancesco collecting two assists and Kyle Fisk chipping in with one assist. Goalie Alex White made eight saves.

Parisi gave Clarkson the lead in the 10th minute with his first of the game. The Red Dragons responded with the next two goals just over four minutes apart to take a 2-1 lead. In the 21st minute, a Clarkson player sent the ball into his own goal on a Cortland corner kick, and Williams struck a low, 20-yard shot into the right side in the 25th minute.

Clarkson started its comeback in the 47th minute when Parisi scored his second of the game on a 15-yard volley. Wilcox gave the Golden Knights the lead for good in the 59th minute off of Parisi's assist, and Vozzella added what would prove to be the game-winner on a rebound in the 63rd minute. McCormack pulled Cortland to within 4-3 in the 74th minute on a direct kick, but the Red Dragons could not score the equalizer to send the game to overtime.
