MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Sophomore forward Maura Johnston collected her first career hat trick as top-ranked Montclair St. used a five-goal first half outburst en route to a 6-3 win over 15th-ranked Cortland at Sprague Field on Saturday.
Freshman forward Gabrielle Stein (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) had two goals to lead the Red Dragons (3-2). Sophomore
Jillian Vogl (Cazenovia) added a goal, while junior Abbey Wentlent (Greene) chipped in with an assist.

Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) made a career-high 12 saves in 52 minutes, 29 seconds for Cortland before giving way to freshman

Stephanie Lewis added a goal and assist as the Red Hawks remained unbeaten at 8-0 while winning their 20th consecutive home contest. Gianna Moglino and Danielle Butrico each tallied a goal, and Brooke Hullings and Abby Erler each contributed an assist. Goalie Rebecca Brattole turned aside four shots.
Vogl opened the scoring with 28:22 left in the first half with a shot from the top of the circle. It was the first deficit of the season for Montclair St., which allowed a season-high three goals after giving up just two in its first seven contests. The Red Hawks tied the game just over a minute later on a penalty stroke by Lewis and added four more scores in the first half for the 5-1 lead. Moglino notched a goal at 12:05 and Johnston scored back-to-back goals 8:11 apart. Butrico finished the run with her goal at 30:16.
Cortland pulled to within 5-3 when Stein scored her first of the game at 41:09 and tipped in a long blast from Wentlent at 52:29. Montclair St., however, scored an insurance goal at 60:35 as Johnston completed her hat trick.
