Red Dragons Defeated at #20 Brockport, 89-71

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – John Ivy scored 26 points to lead three double-figure scorers as nationally 20th-ranked Brockport defeated visiting Cortland, 89-71, for its 14th consecutive victory.

Ivy finished 9-of-15 from the field and 8-of-8 from the foul line for the Golden Eagles (15-1, 9-0 SUNYAC). Brandon Caruthers added 16 points and four assists and Aaron White scored 11 points and registered three steals. Bobby Bell added nine points on 3-of-3 shooting from the 3-point line.

Senior Kevin McMahon (Hoosick Falls) led Cortland (10-7, 5-5 SUNYAC) with 16 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Junior Lamard Herron (Westbury) tallied 13 points and freshman Michael Russo (Syracuse/Liverpool) added a career-high nine points.

Cortland led 18-17 after a McMahon free throw with 9:28 left in the first half before Brockport went on an 11-0 run, capped by Patrick Coyle's 3-point play, to take a 28-18 lead with six minutes left. Cortland closed back to within five at 30-25 on a Garen Spendjian (Glen Cove) 3-pointer with 4:24 remaining, but the Golden Eagles finished the half on a 15-4 streak and led 45-29 at halftime.

Brockport's lead fluctuated between 14 and 21 points the entire second half. The Golden Eagles shot 56 percent both overall and from 3-point range (9-of-16) and hit 22-of-24 free throws (92 percent). Cortland shot 46 percent from the floor, 33 percent from the 3-point arc (6-of-18) and 56 percent from the foul line (15-of-27).

Cortland will travel to Fredonia on Friday for an 8 p.m. game and will play at Buffalo State Saturday at 4 p.m.
