Dean's Hat Trick Leads Cortland to 5-0 Win vs. Brockport

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Victoria Dean (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) recorded her first career hat trick to lead the Cortland field hockey team to a 5-0 victory versus The College at Brockport Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC play at Stadium White. The Red Dragons won their sixth straight game, improving to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Golden Eagles fell to 3-11 and 2-3.

Senior Emily Woods (Williamsville/Williamsville North) notched two goals for Cortland, and junior Jillian Vogl (Cazenovia) collected two assists. Senior goalie Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) and sophomore goalie Mairead Hourihan (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) split time in the cage with neither needing to make a save. Freshman back Meg Redmond (Accord/Rondout Valley) registered a defensive save.

For Brockport, goalie Lindsay Farrell turned aside six shots in 59 minutes, 32 seconds before giving way to Kayla Kulzer, who stopped four shots over the final 10:28 and did not allow a goal. Katherine Weyant made a defensive save.

Dean gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead 30:44 into the game, scoring at the left post off a cross from Vogl. Woods made it a 2-0 lead heading into intermission, scoring an unassisted goal on a long shot just 1:08 before the half.

Vogl and Dean combined again on Cortland's third goal, 3:08 into the second half. Vogl sent a pass from outside the circle that Dean redirected by Farrell to give the Red Dragons a 3-0 lead. Just under six minutes later, Redmond recorded a defensive save on a shot by Abby Eschen to keep Brockport off the scoreboard. Shortly after, Dean tallied her third goal of the game, knocking in a rebound after Weyant's defensive save. Woods completed the scoring at the 57:04 mark when she converted in front after carrying the ball through Golden Eagle defenders into the circle.
