MEDFORD, MASS. – The nationally fourth-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 17-7 victory at Tufts University Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Jumbos (2-2) are coached by Courtney Farrell, who served as Cortland's assistant coach in 2011-12 and associate head coach last spring.
Sophomore
Erica Geremia (Camillus/West Genesee) led the Red Dragons with six points on four goals and two assists. Senior
Taylor Reh (Miller Place) contributed three goals and one assist, while sophomore
Ashley Gentile (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) netted a career-best three goals. Junior
Marilyn Farrell (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius), Courtney Farrell's younger sister, recorded one goal and three assists. Sophomore
Tara Monaghan (Stony Point/North Rockland) tallied a pair of goals, and juniors
Emma Hayes-Hurley (Huntington) and
Chelsea Martin (Ogdensburg/Ogdensburg Free Academy), sophomore
Nicole Bello (Camillus/West Genesee) and freshman
Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) each scored a goal.

Heather Casey (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) caused two turnovers and Reh and junior
Melissa Halstead (Miller Place) each collected two ground balls.
Caroline Ross led Tufts with three goals and one assist. Kali Digate and Gabby Horner tallied two goals each with Brigid Bowser and Eliza Halmo chipping in with one assist apiece. Rachel Gallimore started in goal, making five saves in 48 minutes, 50 seconds before giving way to Emily Morton, who did not register a save over the final 11:10.
After Horner gave the Jumbos a 1-0 lead 3:41 into the game, the Red Dragons ran together four goals, two from Gentile, in less than six minutes for a 4-1 lead. Ross made it 4-2, but Cortland went on another four-goal run with scores from four different players to build an 8-2 lead. Ross and Bello closed the half with goals inside the five-minute mark and the Red Dragons led 9-3 at the break.
Cortland took control of the game by scoring five of the first six goals of the second half for a 14-4 advantage with 15:43 remaining. Geremia picked up a pair of goals and Farrell added one goal and one assist during the run. The Jumbos were able to cut the lead to 14-6 at the 7:02 mark, but the Red Dragons closed the game with three of the final four goals for the 17-7 final.
