GENEVA, N.Y. – Sophomore
Tara Monaghan (Stony Point/North Rockland) scored a career-high five goals as nationally fourth-ranked Cortland pulled away from a close game midway through the first half to rout William Smith, 22-6. The Red Dragons improved to 2-0 with the win and have outscored their opponents by a combined 42-10 in the two victories.
Monaghan also led Cortland with eight draw controls. Junior
Emma Hayes-Hurley (Huntington) and senior
Taylor Reh (Miller Place) scored four goals each. Sophomore
Erica Geremia (Camillus/West Genesee) had a goal and seven assists, one assist shy of tying her own single-game school assist record.

Marilyn Farrell (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) registered two goals and one assist. Sophomore
Ashley Gentile (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and sophomore
Nicole Bello (Camillus/West Genesee) each scored twice.

Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) added a goal and two assists, senior
Liz Beville (Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt) had a goal and an assist and freshman
Ally McNerney (Tully) notched one assist. Senior
Jessica Lavelle (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) led the team with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
William Smith (0-2) was led by Geneva Calder's (Toronto, ON/Birchmount Park Collegiate Inst.) two goals. Allie Flaherty (South Burlington, VT) and Katie Sipple (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) each tallied a goal and an assist, while Kate Byrne (Armonk/Byram Hills) and Cat Gorman (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) scored once apiece.
Cortland sophomore
Liz Ingalls (Centerport/St. Anthony's) started in goal and made five saves in 49 minutes, 29 seconds. Freshman
Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) made one save and did not allow any goals over the final 10:31. William Smith starting goalie Sarah Honan (Medfield, MA) recorded five saves in 32:50, while Allie O'Hara (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) made three saves and gave up eight goals in 10:31.
William Smith trailed 4-3 after a goal by Byrne with 14:05 left in the first half. Cortland, however, rattled off six straight goals over the next 10 minutes to take a 10-3 lead. The Red Dragons led 11-4 at halftime. The Herons scored 35 seconds into the second half before Cortland put the game away with a 7-0 run in an eight-minute stretch.
Cortland will travel to Tufts University next Wednesday, March 12. Tufts is coached by Courtney Farrell, who served as Cortland's assistant coach in 2011-12 and associate head coach last spring.
