ONEONTA, N.Y. – Three different players scored a goal as the Cortland field hockey team earned a 3-0 win at Oneonta in SUNYAC play Friday afternoon. The visiting Red Dragons improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the host Red Dragons fell to 3-4 and 0-1.
Juniors
Jillian Vogl (Cazenovia) and
Brittany Murphy (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) and sophomore
Alexa Sanzone (Rome/Rome Free Academy) each tallied a goal for Cortland with sophomore
Shelby Underwood (Marathon) collecting an assist. Senior goalie
Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) made one save in the first half, and sophomore
Mairead Hourihan (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) stopped two shots in the second half.
Goalie Tess Tracy registered five saves in the opening half for Oneonta before giving way to Krista Servidio, who turned aside two shots over the final 35 minutes of action. Rebecca Teta recorded a defensive save.
Sanzone gave Cortland a 1-0 lead 16 minutes, five seconds into the game when she forced a turnover and deposited a shot into the right corner for her first goal of the season. Vogl increased the lead to 2-0 at 31:09 off Underwood's assist on a penalty corner. Murphy completed the scoring 10:43 into the second half with a rebound goal.
Cortland travels to New Paltz for a 1 p.m. conference game on Saturday.
