ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore Alexa Sanzone (Rome/Rome Free Academy) scored twice and Cortland held Nazareth without a shot as the Red Dragons defeated the host Golden Flyers, 4-0, in a non-league field hockey matchup. Cortland improved to 7-2 with its third straight shutout. Nazareth is now 6-6.

Senior Abigail Wentlent (Greene) and junior Sara O'Brien (Amherst) each scored once for Cortland. O'Brien's goal was the first of her collegiate career. Senior Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) and sophomore Mairead Hourihan (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) each played one half in goal to combine for the shutout. Cortland finished with a 27-0 advantage in shots and a 14-1 margin in penalty corners.

Sanzone opened the scoring less than seven minutes into the game when she scored off a rebound. She tallied again off a rebound, during a penalty corner play, just over nine minutes into the contest for her fourth goal of the season and Cortland led 2-0.

A little over 12 minutes into the second half a Cortland player, while driving toward the cage, was fouled by sliding Nazareth goalie Shannon Winney. The Red Dragons were awarded a penalty stroke and Wentlent converted to extend the lead to 3-0. O'Brien capped the scoring with 4:43 left when she knocked in a rebound after a Winney save. Winney finished with 18 saves.

Cortland will play a SUNYAC game at Morrisville State Friday at 4 p.m. and will host nationally 12th-ranked Rochester 1 p.m. Saturday. Rochester is 10-0 entering its home game Wednesday versus St. John Fisher.
