Gabby Stein Scores School Single-Game Record Six Goals in 11-0 Win vs. Morrisville

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Gabby Stein (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) scored six goals to break a 28-year-old school single-game record as Cortland defeated visiting Morrisville State, 11-0, in a SUNYAC contest.

Stein's six goals eclipsed the previous school mark of five set by Tara Nigro versus Hartwick in 1987. Stein also established a school record for points in a game with 12 (in field hockey each goal is worth two "points" statistically). Nigro and Jonna Macri (4 goals, 2 assists vs. Marywood in 1995) held the record with 10 points each.

Freshman Jess Gibaldi (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) added two goals, while sophomores Victoria Dean (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) and Meg Redmond (Accord/Rondout Valley) each finished with a goal and an assist for Cortland (7-2, 3-0 SUNYAC). Sophomore Anna Branch (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) scored once and senior Jillian Vogl (Cazenovia) added one assist.

Freshman Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) started in goal and did not have to make any saves in 43 minutes, 31 seconds. Junior Mairead Hourihan (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) played the final 26:29 and made one save. Cortland outshot the Mustangs, 59-2, and held a 25-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Morrisville goalie Liz Leva made 28 saves, including a stop on a penalty stroke with six seconds left in the first half. Kat Kilmer and Nicole Griener each registered defensive saves for the Mustangs (1-8, 0-3 SUNYAC).

Stein scored four times in the first half to give Cortland a 4-0 halftime lead. She found the cage just 35 seconds into the game off a Dean crossing pass and scored off a Vogl assist in the 15th minute, then added unassisted goals in the 16th and 25th minutes.

Stein notched her fifth goal of the game off a rebound less than five minutes into the second half. Redmond scored her first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute, then assisted the first of Gibaldi's two goals in the 44th minute when her shot was deflected in by Gibaldi.

Stein broke the record with an unassisted goal in the 49th minute. Branch tallied her first goal of the season in the 62nd minute, followed by Dean's first of the year in the 64th minute. Gibaldi wrapped the scoring with her second of the game and third of the season with 5:51 left.

Cortland will play a non-league game at the University of Rochester Saturday at 1 p.m.
