CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland field hockey team tallied four goals in just over a 10-minute span to build a 5-0 lead at the half and went on to defeat Houghton College, 6-0, Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 8-3 with the victory, while the Highlanders fell to 6-5.

Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) started in goal for the Red Dragons, making two saves in 48:44. Junior
Mairead Hourihan (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) played the final 21:16 for Cortland and stopped one shot. Sophomore goalie Elizabeth Piszker (Glens Mills, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) registered 17 saves for Houghton, including 12 in the first half. Sophomore Grace Lee (Gumisi, Gyeongbuk, South Korea/Rift Valley Academy) made a defensive save in the first half for the Highlanders.
Welsh started the scoring just 1:59 into the game when she tucked a shot inside the left post. Cortland then seized control of the contest with its four-goal outburst. Coope converted a penalty stroke at 21:59 for her first goal of the season. Stein then tallied her first goal of the game at 22:55 with a long shot just inside the circle that went inside the left post. Branch made it a 4-0 game when she deflected in Stein's high pass at 26:01, and Stein completed the run at 31:25 with a shot from the right side after she forced a turnover.
Welsh recorded the lone goal of the second half 3:33 into the period, lifting a rebound over Piszker for her seventh goal of the season.
