Pam Hoerup Earns 300th Career Win as Volleyball Defeats Fredonia, 3-1

POTSDAM, N.Y. - Cortland women's volleyball head coach Pam Hoerup earned her 300th career win as the Red Dragons defeated Fredonia in four sets in SUNYAC play at Potsdam.

The Red Dragons defeated the Blue Devils 25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 25-16 to improve to 9-13 overall and 1-3 in league play. Fredonia fell to 16-6 and 2-2. Hoerup now has an overall record of 300-124 (.708) in 11 seasons at Cortland.

Sophomore Amanda May (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) led Cortland with 11 kills with just two errors in 23 attempts for a .391 attack percentage. Sophomores Janine Patora (Salt Point/Arlington) and Courtney Silberer (Centereach) each finished with 10 kills, while junior Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood/John H. Glenn) had nine kills, a .350 attack percentage, five aces and 21 digs. Silberer led the Red Dragons with five blocks and Patora had two aces.

Junior Liz Roberts (Island Park/West Hempstead) totaled 43 assists, 12 digs and three blocks. Junior Melanie McGuirk (Lido Beach/Kellenberg) posted a team-high 23 digs.

Jess DeChristopher led Fredonia with 12 kills and Kristen Stanek had seven kills. Kailey Falk served six aces and Lauren Hokaj paced the Blue Devils with 20 digs.

Cortland hit over .200 in each of its three winning sets, including a .276 clip in the first and a .250 mark in the fourth. Fredonia hit .250 in the second set, but was at .108 or lower in the other three sets. Cortland finished with 7.5 team blocks.

Cortland resumes league play Saturday with matches against the host school, Potsdam, at 12:30 p.m. and Geneseo at 3 p.m.
