Cortland Defeats Manhattanville, 6-3, to Claim Skidmore Invite Title

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Six different players scored goals as the Cortland men's ice hockey team defeated Manhattanville College, 6-3, in the championship game of the Skidmore Invitational Sunday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 4-3-2 with the win, while the Valiants fell to 6-3.

Freshman Spencer Gourlay (Carlisle, ON/Halton Ravens) recorded a goal and an assist for Cortland. Seniors Michael Mascaro (Merrick/NY Apple Core) and Sam Pinsler (Chicago, IL/Green Mountain Glades), sophomores Darren McCormick (Buffalo/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and Andrew McCann (Bowmanville, ON/Wellington Dukes) and freshman Zach Felser (Sylvania, OH/Philadelphia Little Flyers) each netted a goal.

Sophomore Dan Broderick (White Plains/New York PAL Islanders) and freshman Sean Brown (East Amherst/Northern Cyclones) collected two assists apiece, while senior Adam Diorio (Staten Island/NY Bobcats) and sophomore Tommy Nolan (Mahopac/Connecticut Oilers) chipped in with one assist for the Red Dragons. Sophomore goalie Drew Weigman (Gaithersburg, MD/Northern Cyclones) made 24 saves.

Matt Lippa scored twice for the Valiants. Cory Anderson tallied one goal and one assist, Eric Berglund picked up three assists and Oscar Arflet registered one assist. Goalie Tyler Feaver turned aside 16 shots and allowed four of the six goals as Cortland netted a pair of empty-net scores late in the third period to seal the win.

Weigman was named the tournament MVP, and McCormick and sophomore Dray Zack (Rensselaer/Connecticut Oilers) were selected to the all-tournament team.
