Brittany Murphy (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Red Dragons with a goal and an assist and junior
Gabby Stein (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) netted a goal. Sophomore
Megan O'Brien (Holmes/Carmel) and freshmen
Jessica Welsh (Hamilton) and
Jess Gibaldi (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) each tallied their first career goal. Junior
Kristi Thompson (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) recorded an assist.
Freshman
Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) started in goal for Cortland and made three saves to earn her first career shutout. Julie Hockenberger made five saves in the first half for Elmira. She allowed four goals. Mikayla Rebusmen played the second half for the Soaring Eagles and recorded three stops with one goal allowed.Â
Cortland outshot Elmira 25-6 and built a 4-0 halftime lead. The Red Dragons also finished the game with a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners.
O'Brien opened up the scoring 4:28 into the game for Cortland and Welsh made it 2-0 just over two minutes later. Stein added another goal for the Red Dragons from the Murphy assist and Gibaldi closed the scoring in the first half with a goal at 24:36.
