ONEONTA, N.Y. - Cortland opened SUNYAC women's volleyball play with a three-set loss to Oswego at Oneonta's Dewar Arena. The Lakers defeated the Red Dragons 25-17, 25-21, 25-16.
Cortland (6-9, 0-1 SUNYAC) will face Brockport at 10 a.m. and Oneonta at 12:30 p.m., both at Oneonta, to complete the first of three league weekends.
Sophomore
Janine Patora (Salt Point/Arlington), junior
Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood/John H. Glenn) and freshman
Lindsay Kirk (Lake Grove/Sachem North) led Cortland with six kills apiece. Juniors
Vanessa Carmesin (Leverkusen, Germany/Landrat-Lucas Gymnasium) and
Liz Roberts (Island Park/West Hempstead) totaled 13 and 12 assists, respectively.
Czeczotka and sophomore
Amanda May (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) each served two aces, while Patora, Czeczotka, May and junior
Melanie McGuirk (Lido Beach/Kellenberg) registered nine digs apiece.
Oswego (12-5, 1-0 SUNYAC) was led by Ariel Murawski's eight kills and .350 attack percentage. She also had three blocks. Kim Cassa finished with six kills and three aces, and Lindsey Champitto paced the team with 14 assists.
