ONEONTA, N.Y. - Cortland fell twice in SUNYAC league play at Oneonta, dropping a four-set match to Brockport and a five-set contest to the host school.
Cortland is now 6-11 overall and 0-3 in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons have six more league matches remaining - three at Potsdam Oct. 9-10 and three at New Paltz Oct. 23-24.
Brockport defeated Cortland 19-25, 25-12, 25-20, 27-25 behind 14 kills each from Ashley Capone and Kayla Barber. Cortland was led by junior
Samantha Czeczotka's (Elwood/John H. Glenn) 15 kills and sophomore
Amanda May's (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) 12 kills. Junior
Vanessa Carmesin (Leverkusen, Germany/Landrat-Lucas Gymnasium) had 46 assists and junior
Melanie McGuirk (Lido Beach/Kellenberg) tallied 32 digs.
Oneonta then rallied to defeat Cortland, 18-25, 25-17, 25-27, 25-22, 15-13. The hosts were paced by Jill Darpino's 16 kills and Allyson Coniglione's 29 digs.
Czeczotka was Cortland's leader versus Oneonta with 19 kills and she added 22 digs. May had 14 kills and freshman
Tracy Singleton (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) put down 13 kills. Junior
Liz Roberts (Island Park/West Hempstead) finished with 45 assists and 17 digs and McGuirk totaled 30 digs and three aces.
Cortland returns to action Oct. 2-3 at the Ramapo Invitational in New Jersey.
