GENESEO, N.Y. – Sophomore forward
Matt Aprile (Smithtown/Smithtown West) scored his first collegiate goal in the 61st minute as Cortland defeated host Geneseo, 1-0, in a SUNYAC men's soccer matchup.
Cortland won its sixth straight game and improved to 11-2 overall and 6-1 in league play. The Red Dragons are technically in first place in the SUNYAC with 18 points, although they have played one more game than Oneonta (5-0-1). Geneseo dropped to 7-5-2 overall and is now tied for fourth in the league with a 3-3 mark.

Connor Young (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) made four saves for his fifth shutout of the season and Cortland's ninth overall in 13 games. Geneseo goalie Dillon Medd made a career high 14 saves as Cortland outshot the Knights, 24-8.
The game was scoreless until Aprile received a short pass from senior midfielder
Daniel Friend (Deer Park) and scored with a low, hard shot into the left side of the goal from close range with 29:06 left in the contest.
Cortland will travel to Brockport Saturday for a 1 p.m. league game.
