CORTLAND, N.Y. - Sisters
Courtney Silberer (Centereach) and
Nicole Silberer (Centereach) recorded 14 and 10 kills, respectively, as Cortland defeated visiting Plattsburgh in four sets in SUNYAC women's volleyball action at Corey Gymnasium. The Red Dragons won 25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22.
The Red Dragons improved to 16-11 overall and 3-4 in league play. Cortland is currently tied for sixth place with Geneseo in the league standings, one game behind 4-3 Oswego. The top six teams qualify for the SUNYAC playoffs. Cortland closes out league play Saturday versus Geneseo at 12:30 p.m. and New Paltz at 3 p.m., with Geneseo also facing Buffalo State Saturday at 10 a.m.
Courtney finished with 14 kills and just one error in 28 attempts for a .464 attack percentage, while Nicole had 10 kills and two errors in 26 attempts for a .308 attack percentage with a team-high four blocks.
Amanda May (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) added seven kills and no errors in 22 attempts for a .318 attack percentage.
Sarah Piacentini (Webster/Webster Schroeder) led the team with 36 assists and added 13 digs, and
Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC) posted team bests of 18 digs and three aces.
Also for the Red Dragons,
Valerie Fischer (Williston Park/Mineola) had 17 digs and five kills and
Grace Staudt (Point Lookout/Kellenberg Memorial) totaled 13 digs.
Sam Colombo led Plattsburgh (11-15, 1-6 SUNYAC) with 15 kills and 23 digs.
