CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally eighth-ranked Cortland men's soccer team captured the SUNYAC regular-season title with a 1-0 victory over the Oswego Lakers, in a SUNYAC matchup Saturday afternoon at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons claimed the program's first regular-season title since 1993.
Senior
Tyler Kirschner (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) scored the game's only goal in the 48th minute. Senior
Nick Tata (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) crossed the ball into the box where Kirschner was able to one-touch the ball inside the right post.
Junior goalie
Connor Young (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) recorded his seventh shutout of the season with five saves. Sophomore goalie Evan Bogucki (Deer Park) was able to keep the Red Dragons scoreless in the first half while making four saves. Bogucki add three more saves in the second half.
Oswego's best chance came in the 72nd minute when senior Brian Torchia (Rochester/Greece Athens) headed a ball just over the crossbar off of a free kick.
