HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Cortland field hockey team scored a pair of goals less than five minutes apart in the first half and held on for a 2-1 victory at Houghton in non-conference action Thursday night. The Red Dragons improved to 8-3 with the win, while the Highlanders fell to 6-5.

Meg Redmond (Accord/Rondout Valley) and sophomore
Jessica Welsh (Hamilton) each tallied a goal for Cortland with senior
Gabby Stein (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) collecting two assists. Sophomore goalie
Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) registered one save.
For Houghton, Grace Lee scored an unassisted goal, and goalie Elizabeth Piszker made two saves.
Redmond gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead at 20:55 of the first half with her third goal of the season. Welsh then netted her ninth goal of tha campaign at 25:33 to give Cortland a 2-0 lead at intermission. Lee cut the lead in half at the 54:24 mark, but the Red Dragons held off the Highlanders over the final 15:36 to claim the win.
