POTSDAM, N.Y. – Three different players scored goals as the Potsdam women's hockey team defeated Cortland, 3-1, Friday night in ECAC West action. The Bears improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Red Dragons fell to 0-1 overall and in league play.
Senior
Richelle Skarbowski (Orchard Park/Univ. of New England) scored Cortland's goal with senior
Sydney Carlucci (Baldwinsville/Rochester Edge) assisting. Sophomore goalie
Victoria Gibson (Essex Junction, VT/Vermont Shamrocks) made 32 saves.
Anna-Rose Bertin, Brenna Wilson and Jordan Ott each netted a goal for Potsdam. Jenna Patterson and Nicole Watson collected assists. Goalie Alexa Pfeiffer registered 18 saves.
Bertin gave the Bears a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at 10:33 of the first period. Wilson's power-play goal at 14:30 of the second period made it a 2-0 game heading into the final period.
Skarbowski cut the Cortland deficit to 2-1 just 1:41 into the third period on the power play with a shot from the point through traffic. Ott sealed the win, however, with an empty-net goal at 19:53 after the Red Dragons pulled Gibson for an extra skater.
The same two teams meet at Cortland, Saturday at 2 p.m.
