MOUNT SINAI, N.Y. - Eight different players scored goals, and senior
Tara Monaghan (Stony Point/North Rockland) became the 15th Cortland player to reach 200 career points as the nationally top-ranked Red Dragon women's lacrosse team defeated 17th-ranked Catholic, 19-7, Sunday afternoon at Mount Sinai High School on Long Island.
Monaghan netted two goals giving her exactly 200 points on 169 goals and 31 assists. Senior
Ashley Gentile (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) led Cortland (4-0) with five goals. Freshman
Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) scored three goals, and sophomore
Hannah Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee) tallied five points on two goals and three assists. Senior
Nicole Bello (Camillus/West Genesee) and juniors
Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) and
Makenzie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga) each contributed two goals and one assist, while sophomore
Katie Wolfe (East Amherst/Williamsville North) scored a goal.

Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) turned aside nine shots and collected five ground balls for the Red Dragons. Gentile controlled a game-high 10 draws, and Bello scooped up three ground balls.
Anna Stumme led the Cardinals (1-3) with two goals and three assists. Megan Ellis scored twice, Nicolette Crisalli, Jenna Van Middelem and Ana Brandenburg each netted a goal and Clair Schmitzer chipped in with an assist.
Goalie Christina De Cesaris made seven saves and recorded four ground balls. Allie Bond secured seven draws, while Stumme, Van Middelem and Rachel Meyer each collected three ground balls.
The Cardinals grabbed a 2-0 lead 7:02 into the game on goals from Crisalli and Brandenburg both assisted by Stumme. The Red Dragons answered with an eight-goal run in a span of 12:55 to take an 8-2 lead with 9:32 remaining in the half. Ohberg and Annable each scored twice, while Gentile, Monaghan, Stone and Bello notched one goal apiece. Catholic cut the lead to 8-4 on goals from Stumme and Ellis just 20 seconds apart, but Elmer scored at 1:39 and assisted Monaghan's goal at 1:03 to give Cortland a 10-4 lead at the break.
The Red Dragons still held a six-goal lead at 12-6 with 18:07 remaining as Stumme and Ellis scored for Catholic and Elmer and Stone netted goals for Cortland. The Red Dragons seized control of the game with a six-goal outburst in a 6:55 span for a commanding 18-6 lead. Gentile tallied three goals, and Stone, Bello and Wolfe scored one goal apiece. Van Middelem stopped the run with her goal at 6:13, but Gentile completed the scoring at the 4:20 mark for the 19-7 final.Â
