#1 Women's Lacrosse Beaches Lakers, 18-7

OSWEGO, N.Y. - Senior Ashley Gentile (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) netted a game-high seven goals to help lead the nationally top-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team to an 18-7 win at Oswego Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons improved to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Lakers fell to 6-3 and 2-2.

Senior Nicole Bello (Camillus/West Genesee) also had a solid offensive game for Cortland with four goals. Junior Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) tallied six points on two goals and four assists, and senior Tara Monaghan (Stony Point/North Rockland) and freshman Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) each scored twice.

Sophomore Megan Gonzalez (Miller Place) notched a goal for Cortland, sophomore Hannah Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee) recorded five assists and senior Elise Bennett (Webster/Webster Thomas) and junior Makenzie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga) each added an assist.

Junior goalie Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) made seven saves in 48:05 for the Red Dragons before giving way to junior Victoria Fusco (Watertown/Immaculate Heart), who stopped two shots in 11:55. Senior Colleen Wright (Huntington Station/Huntington) collected four ground balls, Monaghan caused four turnovers and won five draw controls and Gentile secured six draws.

Emily Lange led the Lakers with three goals. Erannan Shattuck and Esther Gabriel each tallied two goals and Teresa Shattuck registered two assists. Goalie Angela Ponto made eight saves, caused three turnovers and scooped up five ground balls, and Danielle Walker recorded four ground balls.
