CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior
Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) tallied a career-high 11 points and tied the school single-game record with eight assists to lead the top-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team to a 20-6 victory versus Buffalo St. Saturday afternoon in the Wounded Warrior Project game.
With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 15-0 overall and 7-0 in the SUNYAC and clinched the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The Bengals fell to 4-11 and 1-6.
Ohberg, who registered all eight of her assists in the opening half and added three goals in the game, equaled the mark set by Erica Geremia in 2013 and matched by
Marilyn Farrell last season. Senior
Tara Monaghan (Stony Point/North Rockland) scored fived goals for the Red Dragons, classmate
Ashley Gentile (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) tallied four goals with one assist and sophomore
Hannah Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee) registered three goals and three assists. Seniors

Elise Bennett (Webster/Webster Thomas), junior
Kaitlin Antelmi (Bridgeport/Chittenango) and freshmen
Madison Lyon (Tully) and
Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-Dewitt) all scored once. Junior

Megan Gonzalez (Miller Place) added an assist each.
Junior
Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) started in goal for the Red Dragons; she recorded three saves and allowed five goals in 38:25. Junior
Victoria Fusco (Watertown/Immaculate Heart) was scored on once while turning aside two shots in the following 10:20, and senior
Liz Ingalls (Centerport/St. Anthony's) held the Bengals scoreless over the last 11:15 and made two saves. Monaghan won five draw controls and Gentile caused two turnovers and collected four ground balls.
Junior Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown) led Buffalo St. with two goals and sophomore Alanna Herne (Tonawanda) chipped in with a score and three assists. Senior Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier), sophomore Christina Krowel (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and freshman Morgan Hogue (Painted Post/Corning) all added one goal each.
Sophomore Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) started and played the entire first half in goal for the Bengals. Stark allowed 15 goals and made two saves. In the second half, sophomore Megan Doyle (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) stepped in and turned aside two shots while conceding five goals. Saint-Vil won seven draws, Lorusso and sophomore Haley Kempf (Buffalo/Mount Mercy) each forced two turnovers and sophomore Christina Standinger (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) scooped up four ground balls.
The Red Dragons contolled the first half and took a 15-4 lead into the break. Monaghan and Gentile scored four goals each, Ohberg and Elmer added two scores a piece and Bello, Antelmi and Stone all found the back of the net once. Krowl, Lorusso, Saint-Vil and Herne scored the four first half goals for Buffalo St.
The teams traded goals twice early on in the second half. Elmer opened up the scoring for Cortland, follwed by Saint-Vil's second goal of the game for the Bengals. Monaghan answered for the Red Dragons and Hogue responded with her lone goal of the game shortly after for Buffalo St. The Red Dragons closed the game with three straight goals from Ohberg, Lyon and Bennett.
