PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Cortland women's volleyball team opened play at the St. Joseph's College (Long Island) Tournament with a convincing 25-6, 25-12, 25-8 victory over SUNY Old Westbury. The Red Dragons (6-4) will wrap up the round-robin tournament Saturday with matches versus Montclair St. at 10 a.m. and the host school at noon.
Courtney Silberer (Centereach) led a balanced offensive attack with eight kills and no errors in 12 attempts for a .667 attack percentage. Three Red Dragons -
Valerie Fischer (Williston Park/Mineola),
Nicole Silberer (Centereach) and
Nadia Moore (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts) - each finished with four kills. As a team, Cortland had 35 kills and 12 errors in 73 attempts for a .315 attack percentage.
Sarah Piacentini (Webster/Webster Schroeder) and
Maria Gelyon (West Seneca/Immaculata Academy) finished the match with 16 and 13 assists, respectively. Cortland's 21 service aces included five by Piacentini, four by Moore and three by
Amanda May (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), while Moore and
Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC) led the team with five digs apiece.
