PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - Cortland bounced back from a tough five-set loss to Montclair State to defeat St. Joseph's College of Long Island in four sets during the second day of the St. Joseph's Tournament. The Red Dragons finished 2-1 at the tournament and are now 7-5 on the season.

Montclair outlasted Cortland to start the day, 25-18, 30-32, 13-25, 25-21, 16-14.
Nadia Moore (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts) led the Red Dragons with 17 kills and added 12 digs.
Valerie Fischer (Williston Park/Mineola) had 15 kills and 14 digs and
Sarah Piacentini (Webster/Webster Schroeder) finished with 47 assists, three aces and 20 digs.

Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC) led the team with 26 digs.
Nicole Silberer (Centereach) and
Courtney Silberer (Centereach) each finished with four blocks.

In the fifth set, Cortland led 10-6 and 13-8 before Montclair rallied. The Red Hawks scored five straight points to tie the set at 13. A Piacentini kill gave Cortland the lead back at 14-13, but Montclair scored the last three points on a kill, a Cortland error, and a block. The crazy second set featured tied scores at every interval from 20-20 to 30-30 before a Fischer kill and a block by N. Silberer and
Amanda May (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) ended the set.

Cortland beat the host Eagles in four sets, 23-25, 25-11, 25-15, 25-20. N. Silberer led the team with nine kills, followed by Moore and C. Silberer with eight each. Piacentini dished out 34 assists, Moore had five aces, and
Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood/John H. Glenn) added four aces. Fischer and Graff each registered 12 digs and
Deja Smith (Suffern) led the team with six blocks and added seven kills.

Cortland will open SUNYAC play next Friday and Saturday with matches against Brockport, Buffalo State and Oneonta, all at Brockport.
