SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Cortland men's soccer team scored goals less than six minutes apart in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and defeated Skidmore, 3-1, Saturday night in non-conference action. The Red Dragons improved to 2-0 with the win, while the Thoroughbreds fell to 0-1.

Nick Tata (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) and sophomore
Chris Hettler (Hauppauge/Smithtown West) scored goals for Cortland, and the team also earned an "own goal." Senior
Daniel Friend (Deer Park) collected an assist. Senior goalie
Joe Brandofino (East Northport/Commack) made three saves.
Kevin Santos scored for Skidmore with Yuta Nakagawa earning an assist. Goalie Derrick Yam turned aside three shots.
The Red Dragons grabbed a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when freshman
Derek Beers (Franklin) lofted a throw-in that deflected off a Skidmore defender and into the goal. Santos tied the game in the 52nd minute off Nakagawa's assist.
In the 57th minute, Tata connected for the game winner. Friend sent a cross to the left corner of the box, and Tata sent a high shot past Yam for his second goal of the season. Hettler added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute, bending a free kick to the top right of the goal.
