SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Cortland lost a four-set decision to Nazareth College during Day 1 of the Skidmore College Invitational. The Red Dragons (9-8) will play Sage Colleges at 11 a.m. and Skidmore at 1 p.m. in Saturday's action.
Nazareth (11-5) won by set scores of 25-17, 25-18, 10-25 and 23-25. The fourth set was tied at 15-15 before Naz went on a 3-0 run. Cortland, however, rallied to tie things at 20-20, and the teams were also tied at 21-21 and 22-22 before Cortland took the lead at 23-22 on a block. The Golden Flyers called timeout, then won the set and the match with three straight points on a service error, an attack error, and a kill.
Courtney Silberer (Centereach) finished the match with nine kills and
Amanda May (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) had eight kills and one error in 26 attempts for a .269 attack percentage. May also finished with a team-high six blocks.
Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood/John H. Glenn) served five aces,
Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC) totaled a team-high 28 digs, and
Sarah Piacentini (Webster/Webster Schroeder) handed out 24 assists.
