TROY, N.Y. -
Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL/Elk Grove) earned two top-three finishes to help Cortland place third out of six teams at the RPI Kumpf Women's Swimming and Diving Invitational.
Cortland finished with 391 points. Ithaca won the team title with 644, followed by RPI (539), Cortland, William Smith (303), Skidmore (182) and Clarkson (142). Cortland also went 3-2 in the dual-meet scoring portion of the meet with wins over William Smith, Skidmore and Clarkson.
Ford placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.27) and third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:17.64).
Caroline Tighe (East Meadow) ended fifth in 3-meter diving (204.80 points) and sixth in 1-meter diving (209.50 points), and
Lauren McBrinn (Suffern/Paramus Catholic (NJ)) was sixth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:43.16).
Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) registered sixth-place finishes in both the 200-yard IM (2:21.25) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:35.94).
Kelly Davey (Plattsburgh) finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (26.71) and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (58.18). Other Cortland top-eight individuals were:
Jackie Bors (Buffalo/North Tonawanda) seventh in 1-meter diving (191.80 points);
Vanessa Vegder (Dansville) seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:41.16);
Kalee Walden (Dryden) eighth in the 50-yard freestyle (26.81); and
Rachel Noach (White Plains) eighth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:22.79).
The combination of
Jasmine Elmassry (Queens/Francis Lewis), Walden,
Natalie Johnson (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) and
Becca Kanoza (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:54.15), with McBrinn,
Darby LaFlamme (Niskayuna), Noach and
Halle King (Auburn/Skaneateles) sixth (4:06.29). The quartet of Johnson,
Alana Szewczyk (South Wales/Holland), McGurk and Ford finished sixth in the 400-yard medley relay (4:21.25).
Cortland will compete in a dual meet at Oswego on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
