Men's Hockey Ties Morrisville St., 3-3

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Six different players scored goals as the Cortland and Morrisville St. men's ice hockey teams played to a 3-3 tie in SUNYAC action Friday night at Alumni Arena. With the result, the Red Dragons sit at 9-11-2 overall and 5-7-1 in the conference, while the Mustangs move to 4-16-4 and 3-9-3.

Juniors Dan Broderick (White Plains/New York PAL Islanders) and Tommy Nolan (Mahopac/Connecticut Oilers) each registered a goal and an assist for Cortland. Junior Drazen Zack (East Greenbush/Connecticut Oilers) scored once and senior Casie Garrison (Cortland/Philadelphia Revolution), junior Andrew McCann (Bowmanville, ON/Wellington Dukes) and sophomores Mike Crowley (Buffalo/Springfield Blues) and Andrew Gleason (Vestal/Syracuse Stars) tallied one assist each. Junior Drew Weigman (Annapolis, MD/Northern Cyclones) turned aside 36 shots.

Senior Joe Carvalho (Brampton, ON/Toronto Jr. Candiens) led Morrisville St. with a goal and two assists and sophomore C.J. Stubbs (Pleasant Grove, UT/Hawkesbury) added a score and an assist. Fresman Henry Hearon (Chicago, IL/Hampton Roads Whalers) tallied a goal and senior Joseph Santino (Woodbridge, ON/Toronto Jr. Candiens) registered three assists. Freshman goalie Jared Young (Pueblo West, CO/Dells Ducks) made 35 saves.

Stubbs scored for the Mustangs 8:38 into the first period when he shot a loose puck in front into the right side of the net. Nolan answered for Cortland 2:02 later with a one-timer from the left circle for the power-play goal and Zack tallied his third goal of the season off of a one-timer from the right side at 16:15 to give the Red Dragons a 2-1 lead.

Hearon scored a power-play goal when his wrist shot from the right side found the back of the net at 7:22 of the second period for Morrisville. Broderick concluded the scoring in the period with his goal at 12:59 for Cortland.

The Mustangs tied the game at three on a Carvalho power-play goal 1:45 into the third. Midway through the period, the Red Dragons came close to pulling ahead when Zack's shot careened off the shoulder of Young and the crossbar, but the game remained tied after three periods of play. Cortland had one final chance in the last minute of the overtime period, but Young snagged McCann's wrist shot that was headed for the top right corner.
