Cortland Women Win Convincingly vs. Potsdam, 81-49, on Senior Day

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cassidy Chapko (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley) scored 21 points, five assists and three steals, and Alyssa Crosby (Brier Hill/Hammond) recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds, as Cortland defeated visiting Potsdam, 81-49, in the Red Dragons' final regular-season home game.

Stephanie Rice (Duanesburg) and Kristy Vitucci (Deer Park) each finished with 14 points for the Red Dragons, who improved to 10-11 overall and 9-5 in SUNYAC play and clinched a spot in the league's six-team postseason tournament. Prior to the game, Cortland honored its four seniors - Chapko, Crosby, Rice and Danielle Levine (Holbrook/Sachem North).

Patti Dorgler led Potsdam (2-18, 1-14 SUNYAC) with 12 points and four assists and also recorded four rebounds and three steals.

Chapko made 9-of-10 free throws and matched her career high with seven rebounds. Rice hit 7-of-11 shots from the floor and added four rebounds, while Vitucci was 3-of-5 from the 3-point arc. Also for Cortland, Joka Oyefeso (Staten Island/Port Richmond) blocked four shots in just seven minutes of action and Katie Carey (Greene) posted career bests of five points and five rebounds and 14 minutes.

Cortland trailed 5-4 with four minutes left in the first quarter, but shook off its slow start by finishing the period on a 15-6 run to take a 19-11 lead. The Red Dragons then made a decisive 15-1 run over the first five minutes of the second quarter, starting with two Vitucci 3-pointers, to go up 34-12. The Red Dragons led 44-19 at halftime and 71-36 after three quarters.

Cortland finished the game shooting 48 percent from the floor, including 5-of-10 from the 3-point line, while holding the Bears to 27 percent from the field and 9-of-36 (25 percent) from the arc.

Cortland will travel to Buffalo State for a 7:30 p.m. league game on Friday.
