CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior
Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) scored a game-high eight points on three goals and five assists to lead the nationally second-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team to a 14-6 victory versus Union College Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 2-0 with the win, while the Dutchwomen fell to 1-1.
Sophomore
Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) netted a game-high four goals for Cortland. Junior
Hannah Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee) recorded three goals and two assists, and senior
Makenzie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga) and freshman
Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) each tallied one goal and one assist.
Junior
Katie Wolfe (East Amherst/Williamsville North) and freshman
Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) scored one goal each, while senior
Nicolette Tortorici (Deer Park) added an assist for the Red Dragons. Senior goalie
Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) turned aside seven shots and scooped up two ground balls. Wolfe won four draws and caused two turnovers, Yonge secured three draws and Meager caused three turnovers.
Senior Natalie Sullivan (Byfield, MA/Governor's Academy) led Union with a pair of free-position goals. Sophomore Ramsey Walsh (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) tallied one goal and one assist, and senior Jackie Hagopian (Wakefield, RI/The Gunnery) and sophomores Elena Driscoll (Marblehead, MA/Governor's Academy) and Kellie Cronin (Westwood, MA) each scored a goal. Junior Cailin Pandolfi (Longmeadow, MA) chipped in with two assists.
Senior goalie Jen Hughes (Wolfeboro, NH/Brewster Academy) made 10 saves. Driscoll won four draws, and Pandolfi secured three draws. Junior Caitlin Hullinger (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln Sudbury Regional) caused three turnovers, and junior Celia Condrick (Westwood, MA) had a game-high four ground balls for the Dutchwomen.
Cortland built a 4-0 lead just before the midway point of the first half as Ohberg assisted two goals by Stone and Wolfe and Annable scored from the free postion. Hagopian's goal at 15:10 put the Dutchwomen on the scoreboard, but Yonge, Meager and Ohberg netted goals for a 7-1 Red Dragon lead. Walsh made it a 7-2 game heading into the half at the 5:08 mark.
Elmer netted two quick scores off feeds from Ohberg to open the second half before Driscoll and Cronin made it a 9-4 game with back-to-back goals. The Red Dragons took control with a four-goal run to open up a 13-4 lead with 14:21 remaining. Sullivan stopped the streak with back-to-back scores, and Ohberg finished the scoring with her third of the game at 5:20 for the 14-6 final.
