#15 Women's Lacrosse Earns 16-2 SUNYAC Win at Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. - The nationally 15th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team held Potsdam off the scoreboard the first 52 minutes, 22 seconds of the game while building a big lead en route to a 16-2 victory in SUNYAC action Tuesday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference with the win, while the Bears fell to 2-8 and 0-4.

Senior Makenzie Annable (Navarino) recorded career highs of five points and four goals to lead Cortland. Freshman Molly Newton (Skaneateles) netted a career-best four goals, and sophomore Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) and freshman Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) each notched two goals. Senior Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) matched Annable's five points on one goal and four assists. Junior Megan Gonzalez (Miller Place) recorded one goal and two assists, and freshmen Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) and Baylee Ojeda (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) each chipped in with a goal.

Senior goalie Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) made six saves and did not allow a goal in 47:37 for the Red Dragons. Junior Kristyn Drake (Tully) made one save over the final 12:23. Annable caused three turnovers and collected three ground balls. Ohberg scooped up three ground balls, junior Carli Clementi (Huntington/Harborfields) caused two turnovers and Stone secured three draw controls.

Murphy Newman netted her 29th and 30th goals of the season for Potsdam with Katie Lapinski and Cayla O'Connor each recording an assist. Goalie Katie Longamore stopped 10 shots and collected three ground balls in 54:47, and goalie Tatum Walber turned aside one shot in 5:13. O'Connor also chipped in with two ground balls, three draws and two caused turnovers.

The Red Dragons built a 6-0 lead 12:01 into the game as Stone and Newton each scored twice. The lead grew to 11-0 at the half with Annable connecting three times. Four different players netted a goal for Cortland to make it a 15-0 lead with 17:10 remaining. The Bears eventually broke their scoring drought with 7:38 on the clock on Newman's first goal. Newman added her second score at 5:33 before Ojeda completed the scoring with 1:48 remaining.
