Red Dragons Defeat Oneonta, 15-8, in Women's Lacrosse

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 17th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team improved to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the SUNYAC with a 15-8 victory versus Oneonta Tuesday afternoon at the Stadium Complex. The visiting Red Dragons fell to 6-6 and 2-3 with the loss.

Freshman Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) led the Red Dragons with a career-high four goals. Senior Makenzie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga) netted three goals, and junior Hannah Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee) and sophomore Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) each scored twice. Senior Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) tallied a game-high five points on one goal and four assists. Freshman Brie Young (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) had one goal and one assist, juniors Katie Wolfe (East Amherst/Williamsville North) and Jaycie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga) netted one goal apiece, freshman Molly Newton (Skaneateles) recorded two assists and senior Laura Messer (Ransomville/Niagara-Wheatfield) chipped in with one assist.

Senior goalie Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) stopped eight shots and scooped two ground balls. Meager secured a game-high eight draw controls, while Makenzie Annable and Messer each collected three ground balls.

Sophomore Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin) paced Oneonta with three goals. Senior Katie Flannery (Massapequa/Plainedge) contributed two goals and one assist, and juniors Jaime Morris (West Nyack/Clarkstown South) and Taylor Casey (Garden City/Kellenberg) and freshman Shannon Giddens (Franklin Square/H. Frank Carey) each netted a goal.

Sophomore goalie Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach) made 13 saves in 41:51 before giving way to freshman Lexi Keen (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), who turned aside four shots over the final 18:09. Sophomore Cara Zanta (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) won four draws, and freshman Erin Fowler (East Meadow) secured three draws. Cohen collected a game-high five ground balls.
