CORTLAND, N.Y. – Juniors
Thomas McNaney (Marcellus) and
Devin Phelps (Chittenango) combined for twelve points as the nationally fifth-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team surged past Brockport, 16-7, at the Stadium Complex Saturday afternoon in a SUNYAC matchup. The Red Dragons improved to 9-1 and 2-0 in the conference and the Golden Eagles dropped to 5-4 and 1-1.
McNaney scored a game-high four goals with two assists and Phelps notched three goals and three helpers for Cortland. Freshman
Danny Caroussos (Smithtown/Smithtown West) recorded two goals with an assist and senior
Jimmy Nielsen (Miller Place) scored twice.

Dean Riley (Homer) netted a goal with two helpers and juniors
Nate Beresovoy (LaFayette),
Bobby Saporito (Medford/Patchogue-Medford) and
Michael O'Connor (Ossining) as well as sophomore
Cam LaPorta (Centerport/Harborfields) scored one goal each for the Red Dragons. Senior

Joe Scalise (Fairport) made nine saves and registered two ground balls in 45:00 for Cortland. Freshman
Jake Craybas (Bethel, CT) stopped three shots over the final 15:00. Senior
Mike Hart (Cornelius, NC/Hough) won 7-of-13 faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls, while McNaney caused three turnovers and collected four ground balls.
Senior Brendan Fitzgerald (Baiting Hollow/Kellenberg Memorial) led Brockport with two goals and an assist. Junior Colton Oliver (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) and seniors Jake Giudice (Webster/Webster Thomas) and Mark Robinson (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) tallied a score and a helper each. Seniors Colin Blind (Webster/Webster Thomas) and Pete Barilla (Irondequoit) each notched a goal and sophomore Jake Recor (Lancaster) dished out one assist.
Senior goalie Conor Nowak (Amherst/Eden) made four saves and picked up three ground balls in 20:37 for the Golden Eagles. Junior Dallas Meyers (Elma/Iroquois) stopped five shots over the final 39:23. Junior Zach Cook (Vestal) won 13-of-15 faceoffs and scooped up a game-high seven ground balls, while Blind caused three turnovers and collected five ground balls.
McNaney scored all four of his goals in the first quarter as the Red Dragons jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Cortland outscored Brockport 7-1 in the second quarter, on two goals from Phelps and scores from Saporito, LaPorta, Beresovoy, Nielsen and Caroussos, to take an 11-2 lead into halftime. The teams each tallied five goals in the second half which resulted in a 16-7 final.
