Women's Lacrosse Defeats Fredonia, 12-7, with Balanced Scoring

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Nine different players scored goals as the ninth-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team defeated Fredonia, 12-7, in SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Blue Devils fell to 2-9 and 1-2.

Senior Nicolette Tortorici (Deer Park) led the Cortland offense with three goals. Senior Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) tallied a game-high five points on two goals and three assists. Senior Makenzie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga), juniors Hannah Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee), Katie Wolfe (East Amherst/Williamsville North) and Sydney Oshinsky (Oceanside), sophomore Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) and freshmen Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) and Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) each netted a goal.

Senior goalie Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) made four saves in 56:47 before giving way to junior Kristyn Drake (Tully), who did not stop a shot over the final 3:13. Torotrici, Ohberg, Elmer and Wolfe each contributed three ground balls, while senior Hilary O'Neil (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) caused three turnovers.

Sophomore Monica Van Donsel (Cortland) paced Fredonia with three goals and one assist. Graduate student Katie Miller (Hamburg) and junior Audrey Yokopovich (Webster/Webster Thomas) each notched two goals, and sophomore Samantha Spiess (Fairport/Penfield) added an assist.

Junior goalie Nicole Burrows (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) registered nine saves in 56:47, and freshman goalie Lauren Spencer (Hamburg) did not stop a shot in the last 3:13 of the game. Burrows and Yokopovich each collected four ground balls with Yokopovich also grabbing a game-high four draws and recording a game-best five caused turnovers.
