GENEVA, N.Y. – Junior
Migell Ormsby (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) scored an acrobatic goal in the second half as the nationally 13th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team closed out the weekend with a 1-0 win over E. Connecticut St. to finish with a 2-0 record at the Hobart Invitational. The Warriors fell to 1-1 with the loss.
In his first action as a Red Dragon, junior
Dan Figarella (East Fishkill/John Jay East Fishkill) assisted on Ormsby's goal. Cortland senior goalie
Connor Young (Bayport/Bayport-Bluepoint) made three saves in posting the shutout. E. Connecticut St. goalie Ryan Murphy registered seven saves.
The Red Dragons dominated play in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the Warriors, 15-3, but could not break through with a goal. In the second half, E. Connecticut St. generated a quality chance to take the lead in the 64th minute, but a Cortland defender blocked a clean header by a Warrior player. Ormsby's goal, his second in two games, came in the 72nd minute. Figarella lofted a pass to Ormsby at the top of the box. Ormsby chested the ball down and struck a bicycle kick that grazed off the inside of the left post and over the goal line.
The Warriors managed two shots the rest of the way, but a bid in the 75th minute went high and a shot in the 88th minute went wide.
