Gibaldi Hits Career 100-Point Mark in 7-0 Win at Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Jess Gibaldi (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) recorded two goals and an assist and became just the 13th player in school history to reach the career 100-point mark as Cortland shut out host Morrisville State, 7-0, in SUNYAC field hockey action.

Gibaldi improved her career totals to 43 goals and 15 assists for 101 points. She opened the scoring for the Red Dragons (9-5, 2-2 SUNYAC) with a goal 6:30 into the contest off an assist from Sara Reardon (Little Falls). Gibaldi assisted on Cortland's second goal when she poked a rebound over to Molly Quinlan (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius), who scored her fifth goal of the season to put Cortland up 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the game.

Amanda Glaser (Huntington/Walt Whitman) scored an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute and Cortland led 3-0 at halftime. Gibaldi hit the 100-point milestone when she scored her 13th goal of the season 8:33 into the second half off a pass from Jessica Welsh (Hamilton).

Gibaldi and Welsh are only the second pair of Cortland teammates to play at the same time after reaching the career 100-point mark. Welsh currently has 112 points (44 goals, 24 assists). Gina Carlo and Carol Merchant were teammates during Cortland's 1993 NCAA championship season and both reached 100 career points that fall.

Cortland wrapped the scoring with three goals in the final 12 minutes. Valerie Brillaud (Nesconset/Smithtown East) scored an unassisted goal with 11:19 remaining. Amanda D'Amico (Smithtown/Smithtown West) scored the game's final two goals - the first on a one-timer off a pass from Erin Hallenbeck (Claverack/Taconic Hills) with 4:36 left and the second on a tip-in set up by Hannah Burchell (Whitney Point) with two minutes remaining.

Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) started in goal for Cortland and did not have to make any saves in the first half. Marisa D'Amico (Smithtown/Smithtown West) recorded two saves in the second half. Morrisville goalie Morgan Dueber finished with 26 saves. Cortland outshot the Mustangs, 48-8.

Cortland will host Geneseo in a SUNYAC contest next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
