CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland field hockey team defeated Geneseo, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon in intermittent wind, rain and hail to clinch a playoff berth in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament. The Red Dragons (10-5, 3-2 SUNYAC) can still earn the second seed depending on weekend results. The Knights fell to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
Senior
Jess Gibaldi (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) reached the 40-point mark on the season as she recorded two goals and one assist for Cortland. Junior
Molly Quinlan (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) added a goal, and senior
Dani Barto (Nichols/Tioga Central) and freshman
Jamie Fergus (Greene/Greene Central) each collected an assist with Fergus' being the first point of her career.

Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) made eight saves for the Red Dragons, five in the second half, in posting the shutout. Freshman goalie Natalie Chojnacki (West Seneca/Orchard Park) registered four saves for Geneseo.
Gibaldi scored her first goal of the game 16:04 into the first half, deflecting a pass from Barto right in front after a Cortland penalty corner. Quinlan made it a 2-0 game at 52:11 when she took a pass from Gibaldi near the top of the circle, worked to the right side and blasted a shot off the right post and over the goal line.
Gibaldi completed the scoring with 7:38 remaining in the game. Fergus possessed the ball five yards above the top of the circle and fed a low pass toward the goal. Gibaldi got a stick on the pass and deflected the ball inside the right post for her 15th goal of the season as the Red Dragons earned the 3-0 win.
