Pick Six; Gibaldi Has a Hand in Every Goal in 6-0 Win vs. Brockport

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Jess Gibaldi (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) was involved in all six Cortland goals as the Red Dragons defeated Brockport, 6-0, Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC field hockey action. With the win, Cortland improved to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Golden Eagles fell to 4-12 and 1-5.

Gibaldi finished the game with two goals and four assists and now has 48 points on the season, tying for the fifth-best single-season point total in program history. Junior Amanda Glaser (Huntington/Walt Whitman) recorded the first hat trick of her career, while senior Jessica Welsh (Hamilton) tallied a goal and an assist.

Senior goalie Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) made one save in posting the shutout for the Red Dragons. Freshman goalie Cara Fox (Barker) stopped eight shots for Brockport.

Cortland struck quickly when Glaser scored her first goal of the game just 41 seconds into the first half with a shot inside the right post from the left side. Welsh then made it a 2-0 score at 8:22 with a long blast from the right side. Gibaldi then set up Glaser's second goal at 15:09 with a pass to the left side that Glaser tucked between Fox's pads. The Red Dragons took a 4-0 lead into the half on Gibaldi's rebound goal at 18:01.

Gibaldi pushed the lead to 5-0 at the 51:16 mark when she took a pass from Welsh, carried to the right side and fired a shot inside the left post from a sharp angle. Just over a minute later, Brockport had its best chance to get on the scoreboard, but Reinoehl kicked away a shot by junior Molly Scarpello (Lancaster) on a loose ball in front. Glaser completed her hat trick and the scoring  with 5:11 remaining in the game with a deflection in front off Gibaldi's cross from the left.

The Red Dragons earned the third seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament and will travel to face second-seeded Oneonta in the semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
