ONEONTA, N.Y. – Four different players scored goals as the Oneonta field hockey team defeated Cortland, 4-3, Friday afternoon in SUNYAC action. With the loss, the visiting Red Dragons dropped to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the host Red Dragons improved to 6-5 and 2-0 with the win.
Sophomore
Valerie Brillaud (Nesconset/Smithtown East) led Cortland with a pair of goals. Senior
Jess Gibaldi (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) tallied a goal, and junior
Kelly Durso (East Islip) recorded an assist. Senior goalie
Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) made one save.
Grace Bilow paced Oneonta with a goal and an assist. Chloe Lynch, Allysin Wells and Carissa Warren each scored a goal. Goalie Danell Jones registered 13 saves.
Lynch gave Oneonta the lead just 4:11 into the game before Gibaldi tied the score at the 20:51 mark with her 11th goal of the season. Bilow put the host Red Dragons up, 2-1, at 44:11, but Brillaud tallied her first goal of the game 22 seconds later to knot up the score. Brillaud put Cortland ahead, 3-2, at 46:54. Wells tied the game exactly one minute later, and Warren notched the game-winner with 3:06 left in regulation. Cortland was unable to register a shot in the closing minutes as Oneonta held on for the win.
